On Sotheby’s auction for famous wristwatches held in Hongkong, a unique Rolex Daytona fake watch was auctioned in a price of 871,348 dollars, breaking the record of modern Rolex wristwatches.
The owner of this Rolex copy with mother-of-pearl dial was Patrick Heiniger, the former CEO of Rolex. He commissioned to make five pieces of Daytona which equipped with Zenith movements. Four of them were given to commercial partners as gifts and the rest one was for himself. As the distinctive feature of the mother-of-pearl, each model was with the different dial. This Daytona was the first Rolex “Zenith” Daytona with platinum case for auction.
In October of 1999, Patrick Heiniger gave the automatic movement knockoff watch to the couple – Francesca Gobbi and Romain Gourdain as the wedding present.
